LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Thanksgiving night hundreds of people across Kentuckiana were out for the early Black Friday sales. Under the Thanksgiving night sky at Toys-R-US in St. Matthews, the line wrapped around the building. Nick Zavagli was one of the shoppers waiting in line.
"Well, we wanted to get a good deal on a PS3," Zavagli said.
Marci Stivers was another person waiting in line and she knew just what she wanted.
"We're going for the DVD players," said Stivers. "For mommy, a little calm in the car."
Scouring the ads, hundreds of shoppers had their Black Friday sales strategy. Some people, like Stivers, even had it during Thanksgiving dinner.
"Thanksgiving was actually at my house for about 35 people," said Stivers. "So, everybody came over at 2, we ate at 3, got everybody out of the house at about 5:30, we sat down and did out list and here we are."
Near the front of the line there was probably no one was more determined for the Black Friday sales than Crystal Shannon.
"I'm 36 weeks," Shannon said. "I'm having contractions and I'm dilated to a 2."
While waiting in line at Toys R Us Shannon already had two contractions.
"You can feel it coming on and then it's just a sharp, stabbing pain," said Shannon. "I'm waiting for the more intense pain, water breaking."
While Shannon and her unborn baby waited, the manager inside the Toys R Us store gave staff a final debriefing.
"We'll let the probably initial 200 in, initially then hold it for about 10-15 minutes," said the manager. "Allow them to shop … line cue to form."
Then the moment of truth as the doors opened. A cascade of shopping carts and shoppers scurried into the store. Some of the shoppers seemed to jog down the aisles.
The Black Friday sales began on Thanksgiving night.
