Moeller prepping for Toledo Whitmer in state championship
Moeller prepping for state championship game
The Moeller football team is one win from the school's first state championship since 1985.
"You wake up in the morning and you think about football, you go to school and you think about football, and then you're at football practice and you're thinking that you want to get home because you tired but you've got to keep playing because you want the ring," Sophomore Austin Ringel told FOX19.
Austin's dad played as a junior on the 1985 championship team.
"The dream of both of my sons is to have them come through the program, work and dedicate themselves to not only the football program but also their grades and to earn their own rings," Thom Ringel said.
Thom wore his championship ring to the school's pep rally Friday as a reminder to the Men of Moeller that hard work pays off on and off the field.
"The sports are just the icing on the cake," Ringel said. "It's being able to build into their lives so they're successful down the road."
Thom knows his son likely will not make it out on the field since his son is just a sophomore, but he's hopeful there will be more state championship games to be played in the coming years.
"It's reassuring that he's there for me and if we win or lose he's there to support," Austin said.
"Persevere, never give up, keep going and if you get to the end of the road and the rainbow's not there you still gave it everything that you had," Thom encouraged.
Moeller will play Toledo Whitmer Saturday for the Division I championship. Whitmer is the state's top ranked team.
Moeller has won 7 football state championships.
This season, the team played three out of state teams who have already won state titles.
