PHOENIX (AP) -
Two men are set for sentencing Monday in Phoenix for their acknowledged roles as "straw buyers" for a gun smuggling ring that was monitored in the government's botched investigation known as Operation Fast and Furious.
Jacob Anthony Montelongo and Sean Christopher Steward each face up to five years in prison when they're sentenced by U.S. District Judge James Teilborg.
Both pleaded guilty to conspiracy and admitted to falsely claiming that guns they bought were for them, when they were actually purchased for the ring.
Steward also pleaded guilty to making false statements in a gun purchase, while Montelongo pleaded guilty to dealing guns without a license.
Investigators faced criticism for allowing suspected straw buyers to walk from shops with guns, rather than arrest suspects and seize the guns there.
