Kerry Takes Guitar Lessons

Kerry takes guitar lessons from Ohio native

When Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry is not trying to hit the right chords with voters on the campaign trail, he finds time to hit guitar chords, thanks to an instructor who is an Ohio native.

The senator takes lessons from Michael Bard, a classical guitarist who graduated from Wright State University near Dayton and currently resides in suburban Washington.

Bard says he first met Kerry in 1997 when he played at a roast for the senator at Georgetown University. Bard says he gives Kerry lessons about once every two weeks.

He says he recently taught Kerry "This Land is Your Land," which the senator played in Iowa during the Independence Day holiday.
