The Tucson Unified School District board has chosen six more schools to close as the district struggles to close a $17 million budget shortfall.

The board's vote late Tuesday begins the process to close 14 elementary, middle and high schools.

The district will now hold public meetings before making a final decision by the end of the year.

The schools picked Tuesday are Brichta, Cragin, Manzo and Menlo Park elementary schools and Wakefield and Maxwell middle schools.

They join Corbett, Lyons, Schumaker and Sewell elementary schools, Carson and Hohokam middle schools, Fort Lowell/Townsend K-8 and Howenstine High School on the closure list.
