Walking & bike path would link Covington to Bellevue - Cincinnati News, Weather, Sports from FOX19 NOW-WXIX

Four-mile river trail proposed to connect Northern KY

A new trail along the south bank of the Ohio River was proposed to better connect Northern Kentucky.

The proposed trail is a four mile walking and bike path, connecting Covington, Newport, Ft. Thomas, Dayton and Bellevue.

Northern Kentucky businesses are hoping it will bring economic development to the area, from walkers and bikers on the path.

The developers, Southbank Partners, hope for the same success.

"It means if other businesses come into the area, they are going to be successful. We are trying to bring people into the urban core", said Jack Mooreland, President of SouthBank Partners.

Part of the trail is already under construction. A bikeway is being extended from the Purple People Bridge, to the east along the top of the flood wall.

Officials say other sections of the trail will be completed as funding becomes available.
