FAIRFIELD TWP, OH (FOX19) -

Charges could be filed this week against a Fairfield Township couple who was found with explosives in their home.

Thirty-five homes were evacuated on Friday afternoon and early evening in the northwest part of Fairfield Township.

As first reported on FOX19.com, local authorities and federal agents found materials which are typically used to make explosives inside of a home on Ravena Road.

"We came to this location to execute a search warrant for a possible meth lab," said Lt. Mike Craft, of the Butler County Sheriff's Department. "That was the purpose of the call. Upon entering the residence, we have discovered a lot of precursors for explosives and things that may be deemed to be dangerous."

The explosives were powder and chemicals. Other sources say there were containers that were labeled "radioactive", and two of those were opened.

"You've got some precursors to explosives in there, and that's always a dangerous situation, so we want to use every safety precaution possible before we re-open up this area," added Craft.

The surrounding homes were evacuated between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

In addition to HAZMAT crews and a bomb squad, the ATF, FBI, and Department of Homeland Security were also on scene.

"Officers on their arrival found a large quantity of liquid and powder chemicals in the house, unknown substances, so HAZMAT was called in," said Fairfield Township Police Chief, Richard St. John. "The male subject was arrested outside the house, actually on the street, earlier today and taken into custody. The search warrant was served this afternoon. The female subject was arrested on existing warrants. She's also in custody".

As of 6:30 Saturday evening, no charges had been filed.

In addition, some, but not all of the powder and chemicals have been identified.
