Vegas urging 12/12/12 couples to prepare for wedding rush

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

People working in the Clark County Clerk's office are anticipating a busy day for December 12, 2012.

The significant date of 12/12/12, they say, will be a popular day for weddings, particularly at Las Vegas chapels.

The county wants couples to complete a marriage license pre-application before the big day in order for those getting hitched to save time.

"The Marriage License Bureau will probably be extremely busy Dec. 9-12 due to the likelihood of a large number of weddings planned for 12/12/12," Clark County Clerk Diana Alba said. "We will do what we can to avoid long lines, but couples can help too by completing a marriage license pre-application."

The county said pre-applications can be found at ClarkCountyNV.gov. From there, people will select "Get a Marriage License" from the "Most Popular" drop down list on the left.

In the pre-application process, couples will be issued a reference number, which they will have to bring to the Marriage License Bureau along with proper identification and a $60 fee.

The county also said its Laughlin office will be open on Dec. 12 in anticipation of the wedding day rush. The office is usually open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of every week.

The Bureau office is located at 201 East Clark Street, which is on the south side of the Regional Justice Center in downtown Las Vegas. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to midnight daily.
