CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Great American Tower at Queen City Square was the
highest-ranked office building in the United States by the Emporis Skyscraper
Award. Overall, Great American Tower was ranked fourth among the top 10
skyscrapers in the world, among those completed in 2011.
Every
year since 2000, Emporis' expert international jury recognizes 10 skyscrapers
completed in the previous calendar year. According to Emporis, a panel of
architecture experts from all over the world judge nominated buildings based on
aesthetic and functional design criteria and then rank them accordingly. The
winners were chosen from more than 220 skyscrapers completed in 2011.
The
41-story Great American Tower rises 665 feet and is the tallest building in
Cincinnati. Completed in January 2011 and 90 percent leased, it is the second
phase of the Queen City Square project developed by Eagle Realty Group, a
member of Western & Southern Financial Group. It was designed by Gyo Obata
of Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum.
"We are extremely proud of
this recognition," said John F. Barrett, chairman, president and chief
executive officer of Western & Southern. "Our enthusiasm for downtown
Cincinnati and the well being of our entire region is what drives us to
undertake projects like Queen City Square and Great American Tower."
The overall winner of this
year's Emporis Skyscraper Award was 8 Spruce Street in New York City, a
residential building designed by Frank Gehry. Great American Tower is the only
other skyscraper in the United States being recognized this year. The other
eight buildings are located in Asia, Europe and Central America.
