Reds trade Stubbs for Indians' Choo

(FOX19) -

The Reds announced a trade with the Indians on Tuesday, which will send Drew Stubbs to Cleveland.

Cleveland's leadoff hitter and center fielder, Shin-Soo Choo and infielder, Jason Donald are coming to Cincinnati.

In return, centerfielder Drew Stubbs and shortstop Didi Gregorius were traded.

"It was very difficult giving up home-grown talent, but we think Choo can fill the missing parts in our lineup both offensively and defensively," said Walt Jocketty, the Cincinnati Reds President of Baseball Operations and General Manager. "He is an exciting player, and we expect him to set the table for Phillips, Votto, Bruce, Ludwick and the rest of our run producers."

Choo, who has been Cleveland's main right fielder for the Indians since 2006, hit .282 last season, and will likely play center field and leadoff for the Reds.

"I think it would be a huge deal for this team," said Reds broadcaster Thom Brennaman. "Quite frankly, if the rumors are true of what the Reds would have to give up to get (Choo), I think it would be a great move for this organization."

He will be a free agent after the 2012 season.

Stubbs has played center exclusively for the Reds. He batted .213 with 14 homers and 40 RBIs, and struck out 166 times in 493 at-bats.

Jocketty praised Stubbs, who helped the Reds win National League Central Division titles in 2010 and 2012.

"We appreciate the contributions Drew made to our two championships. We wish him nothing but success in Cleveland."
