CLIFTON, OH (FOX19) - There is no official word from the university, but sources tell FOX19 that a fundraising campaign is about the begin in order to upgrade UC's football field.
It is estimated that $60 million to $70 million is needed to expand Nippert Stadium, in hopes of moving into one of the nation's top athletic collegiate conferences.
This comes just two days after UC introduced its new head football coach, Tommy Tuberville.
The goal is to draw the attention of a major conference.
"I think the Big East is falling apart so (UC) needs to get out of there as soon as possible," said sophomore Jake Coy. "If there were more seats, then it would just get the loud crowd going and you'd get, like, energized."
Nippert Stadium underwent a major renovation in 1992.
It included an expansion of the upper deck on the east sideline, and adding a new press box on the west sideline. Some UC fans believe there is not enough space to expand.
"The problem we have is space, and I'm trying to figure out how they're going to do that. The only way they can do that is to raise, to go up," said UC fan Paul Davis.
Perhaps the most welcomed addition to Nippert Stadium would not be found on campus.
"Parking is tough. Now that's a tough one," said Davis.
UC sophomore Bryan Ruef agreed. "Parking is also something that's really rough around here. I know that there's no good place to tailgate," said Ruef. It's like a half mile walk from any parking lot to the middle of campus."
Sources tell FOX19 the University's architect does have drawings of the new facility and is expected to reveal them and details about the fundraising efforts by the end of next week.
