Mt. Airy standoff ends peacefully

MT. AIRY, OH (FOX19) - A Mt. Airy man is in custody after a SWAT standoff early this morning.

It happened at the 2500 block of Kipling Avenue around 2:00 Friday morning.

William Davis, 50, is accused of threatening his girlfriend with a pair of scissors and a knife.

Police say he also threatened to blow up the home.

Duke Energy was called to the scene to turn off the gas in the home in case Davis had explosives.

His girlfriend was able to escape the home safely.

The SWAT team entered the home and arrested Davis who had barricaded himself in the basement and said he was sleeping.

He did not resist arrest.

Davis is charged with aggravated menacing and assault.
