Local basketball team wears green for Connecticut victims

UNION, KY (FOX19) - The Gray Middle School basketball team honored the Sandy Hook victims on Monday.

Players wore green ribbons during the Monday night basketball game.

Their head coach said he spoke with them shortly after the shooting and was amazed by the team's maturity, despite their young age.

Gray Middle School is on Ryle High School's campus in Union, Kentucky.

In 1994, Clay Shrout, a junior at Ryle High School, killed four family members, and then held his class hostage at gunpoint.

Steve Sorrell, then Vice Principal, talked him into surrendering peacefully.

Shrout is currently serving life in prison.
