Kasich planning to sign Statehouse gun bill amid calls for veto

On Tuesday, Ohio Governor John Kasich said he will sign a bill that allows guns in the Ohio Statehouse parking garage.

The bill, called House Bill 495, will also change the definition of an unloaded gun, allowing gun owners to carry loaded clips in their vehicles, as long as they are in a separate compartment from the gun.

In addition, it would make concealed carry permits from other states easier to validate in Ohio.

Governor Kasich said he's a supporter of the Second Amendment, and that will not change. He also added that many other issues are involved in the Newtown massacre, besides gun control.

However, some disagree.

On Tuesday, Ohio State Senator Eric Kearney (D - Cincinnati) released a statement encouraging Kasich reconsider his stance on House Bill 495. Opponents say the Newtown Massacre is precisely the reason why Gov. Kasich should veto the bill.
