Coroner finds gunshot residue on body of suspect in Avondale shooting

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Hamilton County Coroner's Office revealed more insight on Thursday to the officer-involved shooting in Avondale.

Gunshot residue was found on the body of Dontez O'Neal, 19, during the coroner's autopsy.

In addition, one shell casing from the scene matched O'Neal's gun.

Police say Dontez O'Neal shot at Officer Orlando Smith from behind a car door, during an undercover drug bust on November 21st.

In response, Officer Orlando Smith shot and killed 19-year-old Dontez O'Neal, according to investigators.

Another suspect, Robert Mathews, was also wounded.

The coroner's report comes one day after O'Neal's mother filed a wrongful deal lawsuit against three Cincinnati police officers.

The lawsuit alleged that O'Neal and Mathews never displayed any weapons during the confrontation and did not try to flee the scene.

It also accused the officers of excessive force and murder.
