CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - With a packed house at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday, both Xavier and UC fans wondered if Crosstown Classic crowds would show good sportsmanship.
Number 11 Cincinnati defeated Xavier 60-45.
"I was worried a little bit but we're doing awesome. It's a very exciting atmosphere," said UC student, Jenna Ratterman.
For over a decade, a battle between the two collegiate heavyweights in Cincinnati was labeled the Crosstown Shootout.
However, following a brawl on the court between players last year, the game was moved to a neutral court, and the name was changed to 'Crosstown Classic'.
But has the new name been accepted among students?
"It'll always be the Crosstown Shootout," said Megan Brault, a Xavier student.
UC student, Mike Raber, weighed in, "I feel like the did it so there wouldn't be this violent connotation with the game because of last year."
"I think it should stay the Crosstown Shootout, but Crosstown Classic is what it's going to be. That's what we're going to call it," said XU student, Jake Haigis.
Overall, students said this year's showdown seemed to live up to it's 'new' name, the Crosstown Classic.
