FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) -

Fire crews were on the scene of a one-alarm fire in Florence on Thursday afternoon.

It was reported at a home located at 18 Julia Avenue, in a neighborhood off of Dixie Highway. The caller said fire and heavy smoke was coming from the front of the home.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. When emergency crews arrived on scene, there was a heavy fire on the first floor.

High wind gusts on Thursday made the fire hard to contain, spreading flames throughout the home. Authorities say it was brought under control in about 45 minutes.

Crews were still on the scene around 6 p.m. working to put out remaining hot spots.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

However, both floors of the home were substantially damaged, and fire crews say several family pets did not make it out.
