NKU Breaks Through at Hampton

AMPTON, Va. (AP) - Chad Jackson scored 18 points and Jalen Billups posted his first double-double of the season to help Northern Kentucky win its first game of the season, beating Hampton 54-52 Thursday night.

Billups finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Nate Snodgrass came off the bench for 10 points, including two free throws with 4 seconds left.

Hampton (2-8) trailed 27-23 at halftime but rallied to a 42-all tie behind a Deron Powers layup at the 4:40 mark. But Billups reeled off six straight to put Northern Kentucky (1-6) up for good, 48-42, with 48 seconds left.

Powers made a layup with 5 seconds left to cut the deficit to 52-51 but Snodgrass' free throws sealed the win.

Northern Kentucky outshot Hampton 37.5 percent (18 of 48) to 31.5 percent (17 of 54) and held a 39-33 rebounding edge.

Emmanual Orkorobo had 16 points and 10 boards for Hampton.
