COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2013 Ohio State LiFE Sports Spring Game, presented by Nationwide, will be played April 13 in Cincinnati at Paul Brown Stadium, officials from the Ohio State Department of Athletics, Cincinnati Bengals and Hamilton County announced today.
"I would like to thank Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown and representatives from Hamilton County for working with us to make this 2013 Ohio State spring game in Cincinnati a reality," Ohio State Director of Athletics Gene Smith said. "We are very appreciative to be able to bring the Buckeyes into Cincinnati and closer to our fans in the southern Ohio region."
"When Gene called earlier this year to talk about this I was hopeful that this would come together," Brown said. "This is a unique opportunity for local Buckeye fans to get a first look at the 2013 team."
Ohio Stadium will be under renovation next year, prompting the change of venue to a city where Ohio State coach Urban Meyer spent a considerable amount of time; he played football for the University of Cincinnati and he is a 1986 graduate with a degree in psychology.
"Cincinnati is a wonderful city full of great people," Meyer said. "I think it is great that we are able to bring the Buckeyes into a part of the state where we haven't been for a while, and I am looking forward to the team having the opportunity to play in Paul Brown Stadium."
Ohio State and UC played at Paul Brown Stadium in front of 66,319 fans on Sept. 21, 2002, in Ohio State's only prior appearance in the 13-year-old facility that has 114 suites and 7,600 club seats.
Paul Brown Stadium opened in 2000 and in addition to being the home of the Cincinnati Bengals, has hosted several college and high school football games as well as concerts and other events.
"We are excited to host the OSU spring game here in Hamilton County at Paul Brown Stadium," said Commission President Greg Hartmann. "The game will be a fun, exciting way to showcase both the Ohio State Buckeyes and our top-notch Paul Brown Stadium."
The work on Ohio Stadium is a resurfacing project in the seating areas and will begin in January.
