New Cath football coach leaving for Georgetown

Newport Central Catholic's state championship football coach is leaving to become offensive coordinator at Georgetown College.

Eddie Eviston, who played college football at Georgetown, won two state championships his three years as head coach of the Thoroughbreds, including this year.

Rob Detzel, NCC's AD, says Eviston told his staff at the football team banquet Thursday night and met with the team Friday morning.

Detzel says he and the school's principal will chat over the Christmas break, but won't start the process of replacing Eviston until school resumes in January.

Deztel said the change surprised him, but says the NCC football program is in "good shape" and will take his time to make sure the school "makes the right hire."
