Go out and play! Doctors say recess as important as class time - Cincinnati News, FOX19-WXIX TV

MORNING TALKER:

Go out and play! Doctors say recess as important as class time

Math and science are important, but doctors are standing up for another part of school: recess.

The American Academy of Pediatrics says playtime makes kids more attentive along with the health benefits of running around the playground.

According to a report by Newser, the decline in recess has coincided with a rise in child obesity. Just three states require 20 minutes per day.

Recess structures vary widely between schools, with 73 percent of kids through sixth grade getting some type of recess since the 1990s.
