With the expiration of the payroll tax cut, almost everyone's paychecks have taken a hit.
Couponing can make up the difference, and you can learn how to do it for free.
Over the years, Tiffany Cutts has explained how to score birthday freebies, get free product samples and which items you should never pay for. She runs the savings blog "Young and Frugal in Virginia," and she's one of the foremost experts when it comes to couponing.
"A lot of people have been emailing me, saying they wanted to get started on couponing but didn't know where to start," said Cutts.
Cutts is passing her knowledge on to you. She's hosting two free coupon classes next week, so you can learn to save like she does.
"I talk about where to get coupons from, how to organize them, how to save at the local stores like Martin's, Kroger and Target and some basic couponing tips."
Many of those who take her class say they don't have the time to coupon.
"I work a full time job, and I run a blog, and I still manage to save money and coupon," said Cutts.
Whether you're a beginner or an expert, the world of couponing is constantly changing - so you're guaranteed to learn something new.
You can fatten your coupon stash with Tiffany's coupon swap. Bring in the ones you don't want and trade for the ones you do.
"The baby coupons are the most popular, so they get excited when they see a high value one for diapers."
She'll also accept expired coupons to ship to military serving overseas. Commissaries will take coupons up to six months past the expiration date. Her students walk away with knowledge they can apply instantly.
"I get a few of those emails, people saying, 'I saved over 60% on my first trip, thank you so much,'" said Cutts.
Tiffany's Richmond Times-Dispatch class is full, but there are openings for the class at Henrico's Dumbarton Library on Saturday, January 26 at 10:30 a.m. You have to reserve a seat - just visit Tiffany Cutts blog at http://youngandfrugalinvirginia.blogspot.com/.
