P&G Suit Against Amway Dismissed

Second federal appeals court dismisses P&G suit against Amway

A federal appeals court dismissed a Procter and Gamble lawsuit against Amway Corporation over false rumors that the Cincinnati-based P&Gwas linked to Satanism. The fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans rejected the appeal today. P&G spokeswoman Linda Ulrey said ithat the company was disappointed. P&G alleged that Amway and a group of Amway distributors spread a baseless story about P&G and Satanism. The case had been dismissed in Texas after another appeals court ruled in favor of Amway in a Utah case early last year. Procter and Gamble attorneys had asked the New Orleans-based appeals court to reverse the Texas decision. Amway attorneys said P&G was trying to hold Amway accountable for something it didn't have anything to do with. Amway is a a subsidiary of Ada, Michigan-based Alticor Incorporated. It sells household products, many of which compete with P&G products.
