CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (FOX19) - Bengals offensive tackle Andre Smith was arrested after he allegedly brought a loaded gun to a Georgia airport on Thursday.
TSA officers reported finding a loaded .380 pistol in an unnamed passenger's carry-on bag at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport at 4:50 p.m. Airport police were then alerted, took possession of the gun and arrested the passenger.
Court records from Clayton County indicate Smith was arrested on Thursday evening, on one count of carrying weapons in unauthorized locations.
The Federal Privacy Act prohibits TSA from identifying the passenger. However, officials say only one firearm was discovered by TSA in Atlanta on Thursday.
Smith posted a $3,000 bond and was released from jail just before 1 p.m. on Friday.
A spokesperson for the Bengals said the team is aware of the situation, but "don't feel it's appropriate to comment on an unresolved situation."
Smith is from Birmingham, Ala. He was selected by Cincinnati in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft.
Smith just played the final year of his contract and is a free agent.
