Hidden in between the fast cars, lights and interstate ramps of downtown is Fido Field.
Fido Field is a downtown dog park. It's a place for dogs to run, play, exercise and socialize. Fido Field goers call it a hidden gem of downtown Cincinnati.
However, due to cuts in city funding, plans for Fido Field fell short of dog owners' expectations. Original construction costs for the facility were well over $200,000. As a result, the park now sits without many of the promised amenities.
When funding for the recreational area was cut, downtown dog owners took matters into their own hands and began fundraising to build a better park for their pets.
Thus, "Balls Around the Block" pub crawl was born. On Friday, the 8th annual pub crawl kicked off at the Contemporary Arts Center, stopping at several downtown bars throughout the evening.
All of the money raised at the event is put towards field upgrades, at $30 per person.
Prior to Friday's pub crawl, organizers revealed they were barely a quarter of the way to their overall budget, and still had plenty of amenities they would like to add, such as a water source for the park.
