CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A Cleveland police officer shot on the city's east side on Monday morning.

It happened around 10:15 a.m. on Addison Road.

The officer, identified as Officer Bob Taylor from the 5th District, was struck one time in his body armor. He was rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was later released.

Dozens of Cleveland Police officers, joined by SWAT teams, combed a 10-block area surrounding East 64th and Addison for the suspect for most of the day searching for the suspect.

The search was complicated by the large number of abandoned homes in the area.  Each is a potential hiding spot for the suspect.  Officers are going through each of them methodically.

19 Action News has learned Officer Taylor was involved in a deadly shooting in April of 2011. He shot and killed a man who had a hostage in a vehicle.

The Cleveland Division of Police is asking that anyone with information connection with this incident to contact the Cleveland Division of Police at 216-623-5464.
