CINCINNATI --- Xavier University freshman guard Semaj Christon has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the second straight week and the fourth time this season.
Christon averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals in Xavier wins at St. Bonaventure on Jan. 16 and vs. La Salle on Jan. 19. Christon shot 56.0 percent from the field for the week.
Christon led Xavier with 19 points and a career-high 10 assists in the win at St. Bonaventure. Christon, who scored 15 second-half points, hit an off-balance bank shot with five seconds left that proved to be the game-winner. He followed that up on Saturday against La Salle with a game-high 18 points to go with five assists and three steals, while shooting 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the field.
Christon leads the team in scoring (12th in the Atlantic 10 Conference overall and first among freshmen at 14.7 ppg.) and assists (third in the Atlantic 10 Conference overall and first among freshmen at 5.1 apg.). He has averaged 18.5 ppg. and 6.0 apg. in Atlantic 10 play.
Xavier takes a four-game winning streak on the road for a game at Charlotte on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. XU is 11-6 overall and 4-0 in the Atlantic 10, while Charlotte stands 15-3 overall and 3-1 in the A-10.
