State Board of Education pres. fights backlash from Hitler FB post

Debe Terhar Debe Terhar

State Board of Education President and Cincinnati Republican Debe Terhar is defending a photo of Adolf Hitler that she shared on Facebook.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Debe Terhar shared a photo from the 'Uncle Sam's Misguided Children' Facebook page that depicted Adolf Hitler and the caption, "Never forget what this tyrant said, 'To conquer a nation first disarm its citizens.'"

The photo had over 18,000 shares.

Terhar removed the post from her Facebook timeline and wrote the following statement:

To my "friends" on Facebook. I received a photo that had a quote attributed to a tyrant. The quote referred to gun control. It is a hot button issue today. I did not research to check that the quote was accurate. Not sure everyone does, but in this case I did not. I also made no comment on the re-post. Someone took offense to it and apparently believed that I was making a comparison to an individual. I was not, it was the words in the "quote" that was the focus. This "friend" took a screenshot of it and sent it to the Columbus Dispatch. I reposted a picture, made no comment. It will be great to stay caught up on what everyone is doing in their lives but I will no longer re-post anything sent to me. Have a great day.

In our commitment to balanced news, we reached out to Terhar and she issued the following statement to FOX19:

"I did not compare our President to Adolph Hitler. Like millions of Facebook users, I simply shared a photograph on Facebook posted by another person. I regret the consequences of carelessly sharing that picture and I will be more selective in my use of social media in the future. I am committed to improving the quality of education for Ohio's children and will continue to work tirelessly to achieve that goal."

Terhar and her husband own Strategic Planning Advisors, LLC and live in Green Township.
