NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police arrested a North Carolina man on Tuesday after 29 pounds of marijuana were found inside his vehicle.

Police said Chad Eric Bugg, 44, of Wendell, NC, was stopped on Interstate 40 East near Bellevue at 3 p.m. for following a tractor-trailer too closely and swerving.

When the officer pulled Bugg over, he said he saw two duffle bags in the back floorboard and luggage on the back seat.

Initially, Bugg said he was traveling across the country doing roofing estimates. When the officer asked Bugg if he could check the duffle bags, Bugg agreed.

Inside the two duffle bags on the floorboard and a third with the spare tire, police found 29 vacuum sealed bags of marijuana weighing about one pound each.

Police said Bugg then admitted to flying from North Carolina to California with $38,000 in his carry-on luggage to purchase marijuana, which he said he planned to resell in his home state.

Bugg is charged with felony possession of marijuana for resale. He's being held in Nashville on $150,000 bond.
