A former state prison guard copped a plea and admitted he had sex with an inmate at a pre-release center in Columbus who later had his baby. Forty-one-year-old Anthony Peterson pleaded guilty to sexual battery for having sex last April with the 26-year-old woman. Two other charges of sexual battery were dismissed in exchange for the plea. The woman gave birth in January and DNA testing proved the child was Peterson's. Judge Deborah O'Neill set sentencing for August 30th. Peterson faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to ten-thousand dollars. Since the accusations came to light, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction fired Peterson. Peterson was a corrections officer for eight years. In a Court of Claims lawsuit against the Ohio prison system, the Dayton woman said she was repeatedly assaulted in her cell and other areas of the pre-release center for one year. She is seeking damages from the state for improperly hiring and supervising Peterson.
