Teen Poisoned

Teen receives life

A 19-year-old Maryland man who killed a romantic rival by spiking his soda with cyanide has been sentenced to life in prison. Ryan Furlough was spared life without possibility of parole. The victim's father said he should have been "put away for good." Prosecutors say Furlough laced the victim's drink with poison because he was in love with the 17-year-old's girlfriend. The 2003 poisoning occurred at Furlough's suburban Baltimore home, where the two had been playing video games. The poison caused a seizure and the victim died five days later. Furlough's clean record led the judge to leave the door open to parole, rather than sentencing him to the harsher life without parole.
