Police in Savannah, Georgia, are investigating whether an explosion in a trash can is linked to a father and son recently arrested on federal weapons charges. The explosion yesterday happened when the garbage container was being emptied into a truck. No one was hurt, but nearby neighborhoods were evacuated. A dumpster was destroyed and the garbage truck sustained substantial damage. A spokesman says the two men were seen "picking up things" at a gunnery range at nearby Fort Stewart over the weekend. They live about a block from where the explosion occurred. Police arrested the men after finding an automatic weapon and a high-capacity ammunition clip in their car. They haven't been charged in the blast. A search of their home turned up ten automatic weapons, including many with altered serial numbers.
