TiVo is a no-go for Hollywood studios. In a filing with the Federal Communications Commission, the studios and the National Football League are opposing a plan to allow TiVo users to transfer recorded TV shows to other devices. The studios and the NFL fear their copyrighted content could get loose on the Internet. California-based TiVo is a leading provider of digital video recorders. Users can program their devices to record their favorite shows on a computer-like hard-disk. TiVo wants to upgrade its technology, allowing users to copy shows onto TiVo-compatible devices, including laptops and PC's.
