MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

Two very brave children show that even in challenging times, a friend can offer the best comfort and support.

One is battling cancer, while his friend,an 11-year-old from Murfreesboro, is Paying It 4ward by shaving her head to support him.

What is pretty incredible is this won't be the first time Haley Burt has shaved her head to show support for others who are fighting a life-threatening disease.

Two years ago, then-9-year-old Haley made a bold decision to go bald.

"I said, 'Daddy, if I shave my head, will you do it with me,'" she asked.

They were at the St. Baldrick's Foundation event, raising money for childhood cancer research. Haley met a boy with cancer who was too sick to come inside. So, she made a split-second decision to shave her head so he wouldn't feel alone.

"It was amazing. It was hard to keep it together while she was getting her head shaved," said her father Paul Burt.

Now, two years later, Haley's hair is back, but she's ready to give it up once again.

"I am a little bit nervous. I am happy I can do this a second time. I didn't think I'd be able to do it again," she said.

This time around, she is shaving her head to support her neighbor, Alex Scogins, who is fighting cancer. Haley said this gesture is actually just the start of a life-long campaign.

"I am planning to do it 10 times before I die," she said.

Haley said she wants to raise awareness for childhood cancer in hopes of finding a cure. Her dad said there's an important message in what his young daughter is choosing to do.

"Any little thing you can do for someone that is less fortunate than you - even small and you don't know what impact it will have - do something for someone," Paul Burt said.

Haley's dad will once again join her on stage with the clippers, along with her mom and brother. The whole family is going bald.
