CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
The principal of Withrow University High School canceled the senior prom for the Class of 2013.
The reason? More than half the class
was involved in a water balloon fight in the school's cafeteria last month as a senior prank.
Principal Sharon Johnson, who learned of the prank beforehand, said
she spoke to students prior to the lunch period and pleaded them not to go
through with it.
"When they were all in the
lunch room, I got the microphone, and I stood in front of everybody and asked
them not to do the prank," said Johnson.
The students did not heed to the
principal's warning. "Right before it was time to go, it was on. Water
balloons were flying everywhere through the lunchroom," said Johnson.
Five students were suspended
including senior, Juwan Seay.
"I apologized to the principal and other
staff members and then I didn't feel that it was right that I was only one of
the five people that got suspended when it was a whole lot of seniors that did
the prank," said Seay.
Some parents of Withrow students
say they will hold a dance for their juniors and seniors, but they are not
permitted to associate the word "Withrow" with the event.
