On Thursday, the Tyler Police Department arrested Ashad Rael Coats, 25, who was wanted for the robbery of the Food Fast convenience store on January 16.

A Smith County Crime Stopper tip led Tyler Police investigators to the Town Park Apartments on Loop 323 where they arrested Coats.

On January 16, Coats, Darryl Earl Daniels Jr., 23, and Jaqun Jamel Dawson, 17, allegedly robbed the Exxon/Food Fast gas station at University Boulevard and Old Omen road.

Officers said two unidentified black men with handguns entered the store, but realized the clerk was outside smoking. The worker was forced back into the store and the men got away with cash from the register and fled into a wooded area behind the store, according to investigators.

Upon searching the area behind the store with a police K-9 they located one of the suspects lying in the wooded area who had been shot in the lower right leg.  Officers located a gun and other evidence linking him to the robbery.

The injured suspect was identified as Dawson. He was transported to a local hospital and was treated for his injury.

Daniels surrendered to authorities on January 22.

All three have been charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and are being held on a $100,000 bond each.

U.S. Marshals assisted in Coats' arrest.
