West Side Market vendors struggle, fire investigation continues

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

From looking around you would hardly believe it was a Friday at the West Side Market.

The place was practically empty and so are the pockets of produce vendors.

"Where are the people? We are almost closed up because we don't make any money.  My register is empty," said vendor Maha Abdou.

Even though they're able to open, the produce vendors believe they're worse off than the indoor vendors because they say the city came around today, telling them rent is due.

"I don't think that its right. No one is here. We're not doing any business. We're not making any money. We're open for the people and no one's coming," said vendor Jason Scott.

"I'm sorry, I don't have any money. I have no income since the fire happened," said Sam Ibrahim.

Rent ranges from $500 to Ibrahim's $3500 stand. Without any money coming in, his account with his supplier has now been frozen.

On a normal Friday he'd make a couple grand, today a couple bucks, and he's not alone.

"$12 all day…that's fair? Is that fair for us," Abdou asked.

"We don't see any sympathy for what we lost and what we're losing still," said Iman Abraham.
