The Adrian Police Department says the chemical emergency at a dairyfacility has been cleared, all roads are open and the shelter in place order has been lifted.
The area affected is near the intersection of East Maumee and Gulf streets.
A barrel containing 30-35 gallons of nitric acid reacted with a small amount of sodium hydroxide.
The spill was contained on site at 1336 E. Maumee. There was no immediate threat to the public, but a safety order was issued. People 1/10th of a mile from the intersection were advised to remain indoors. Additionally, roads were closed in the immediate vicinity.
Dairy Farmers of America and a hazardous materials clean-up crew are taking appropriate steps to remove the contaminated chemicals from the area.
No injuries and limited property loss have been reported.
