PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The recent string of lovely days and pleasant temperatures may soon be coming to an abrupt end, CBS 5 weather forecasters said.

President's Day will see highs in the mid-70s, but a large and cold Pacific storm will approach Arizona on Tuesday, dragging with it a combination wind, overcast skies, cooler temperatures and possibly a quarter-inch to half-inch of rain in the Valley.

Snow levels will fall to 3,500 feet, where accumulations of 4 to 8 inches is expected. Winter weather advisories are also possible in Arizona's high-country.

Motorists are advised to watch out for winds of 25-30 mph, which can be expected Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon. Some gusts could reach 45 mph, forecasters said.

The cold front, with gusty winds, is forecast to appear in the Valley just before dawn Wednesday, meteorologists said. There is a 50 percent chance of rain after midnight.

Phoenix and surrounding areas will feel the brunt of the storm on Wednesday. That's when the Valley can expect about an 80 percent chain of rain.

Besides the rain, residents will notice quite a cool down. Highs on Wednesday will only be in the 50s.

By contrast, the high in Phoenix on Saturday hit 80 degrees.

Showers will begin to taper off Wednesday night, but bundle up. Overnight lows will range between the low 30s to low 40s.

Thursday will be partly sunny and cool, with highs in the mid-50s to low 60s.
