CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Hundreds of climbers gathered at the Carew Tower Sunday morning to support the American Lung Association.
Climbers, walkers, runners and supporters of the American Lung Association climbed the stairs of the Carew Tower while raising money to help support the fight against lung disease.
The event kicked off with the Vertical Mile Climb. Participants climbed the Carew Tower a total of 10 times up and down plus a total of 8 floors and 6 steps. The elite athletes participating in the Vertical Mile Climb were required to try out for the event beforehand.
The competitive and casual climbers began their ascent following the Vertical Mile Climb. These participants climbed 45 floors for a total of 804 steps.
The day concluded with the Firefighter Challenge. Local firefighters competed in full gear for the titles of Fastest Firefighter Team and Top Fundraising Team.
The Fight for Air Climb strived to raise $185 thousand to support lung health research and to raise awareness for the cause.
