Yearly national conference to focus on improving the health of people from the Clinic to the Community

The American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM), the nation’s leading society of physicians committed to health promotion and disease prevention, is proud to host Preventive Medicine 2013, taking place February 20-23, 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona. This meeting serves as the leading annual gathering of physicians, health professionals, health care organizations, government agencies, and others committed to disease prevention and health promotion.

Preventive Medicine 2013 will present state-of-the art research to more than 700 physicians, nurses, medical students, and other healthcare professionals. Innovations in four major areas: Population Health Practice, Clinical Preventive Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine Practice, Technology and Informatics, and Medical Quality will be discussed. The conference will also feature nearly 40 educational sessions and skill-building institutes featuring the nation’s leading experts and luminaries in the field of preventive medicine, including medical quality and lifestyle medicine sessions developed in conjunction with conference partners, American College of Medicine Quality and American College of Lifestyle Medicine.

  • Kevin Patrick, MD, MS, FACPM, Professor of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of California, San Diego and Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

  • Richard Carmona, MD, MS, FACS, First Distinguished Professor of Public Health at the University of Arizona and former U.S. Surgeon General

  • Annette DuBard, MD, MPH, Director of Informatics, Quality and Evaluation for Community Care of North Carolina

  • David Nash, MD, MBA, Founding Dean of the Jefferson School of Population Health and a board certified internist internationally recognized for his work in outcomes management, medical staff development and quality-of-care improvement.

  • Philip Polgreen, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Iowa.

  • Janet Wright, MD, Executive Director, Million Hearts Initiative, a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-led national initiative to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes in the U.S. by 2017

“With this year’s conference theme, ‘Population Health is Good Medicine: Improving the Health of People from the Clinic to the Community,’ we will explore the paradigm of population health across the spectrum of prevention, from clinical practice to community prevention,” says ACPM President, Miriam Alexander, MD, MPH, FACPM.

ACPM and the American Journal of Preventive Medicine are delighted to invite you to the first ACPM-AJPM Scientific Research Symposium, Salud America!, which will be held at Preventive Medicine 2013. The research symposium will feature original papers focused on Latino culture, health conditions, and/or policies in places where Latino children and families live and work. The collection of studies will be published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine during the week of the conference.
