EAST TEXAS (KLTV) -
A Severe Thunderstorm
Watch has been issued for the following counties until 9:00 PM: Camp, Cass,
Franklin, Gregg, Harrison, Marion, Morris, Panola, Rusk, Smith, Tutus, Upshur
and Wood.
As a cold front
approaches East Texas this evening, chances for isolated strong to severe
thunderstorms will occur. These will be small storms that could produce small
hail, gusty winds near 60 mph and even a few isolated tornadoes. A few
storms have already shown signs of tornadic development over the far
southern sections of Deep East Texas and Southeast Texas.
The dry
line preceding the front continues to allow for showers and thundershowers
to build quickly along that boundary, and as the line moves through our area,
chances for isolated strong to severe storms will then occur. These storms
should move rapidly toward the ENE at 35-45 mph, so they will move through
very quickly.
Once the front moves
through, the severe weather threat will diminish rapidly and the weather
conditions overnight tonight and tomorrow will be quite calm.
Another risk for severe
weather will occur late on Wednesday and again early on Thursday as another front
moves through. This area appears, at this time, to be the stronger of the two.
