Preparations being made for possible snow, wintry mix this weekend

ROCKY HILL, CT (WFSB) -

Cities and towns have started preparing for a possible snow and wintry mix this weekend.

Chief Meteorologist Bruce DePrest said he expects a wintry mix of snow and rain to develop Saturday, possibly during the morning.

However, snow accumulation is not expected during the daytime hours, but at night that could change.

The hills of Northern and Western Connecticut could see "heavy wet snow."

"The weight of the wet snow could bring down tree limbs and power lines in that part of the state," DePrest said. "Meanwhile, the shoreline should get a pretty good dose of rain with some accumulation snow possible at the tail end of the storm on Sunday."

Bridgeport started preparations by holding a meeting with emergency officials on Thursday.  Mayor Bill Finch previously told Eyewitness News that he would be monitoring the city's response to the snow storm after several complaints following Blizzard Charlotte.

"The city is monitoring this potential storm and working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the safety of our residents," Finch said. "Our plows are ready to hit the streets; contractors are ready, if needed, to help with snow removal operations."

Now, it becomes a waiting game for the state as the weekend approaches.

"How the storm ultimately impacts our state greatly depends on the exact storm track," DePrest said.
