NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A man who police said tried to toss drugs into the woods wasn't able to escape authorities.

The incident happened at an apartment complex Wednesday night in Hermitage after police saw a man driving recklessly.

The driver, identified as Andy M. Chambers, 21, parked the vehicle, and started running.

Chambers reached a wooded area tossed a plastic bag, said police.

Officer found marijuana inside the bag, along with $1,015 believed to be drug money.

While officers were letting Chambers sign paperwork, police said he reached inside the officer's vehicle and broke his own cell phone.

Investigators spoke with one of the suspect's friends, who said Chambers sells marijuana in the parking lot of the complex.

The police affidavit does not mention which apartment complex the incident occurred.

Chambers is charged with resisting arrest and other drug-related offenses.
