Courtroom Slaying

Suspect surrenders

A California fugitive whose mother gunned down his accused molester in a courtroom eleven years ago has surrendered in an unrelated case. William Nesler faces charges in last month's fatal beating of his neighbor, David Davis. The alleged attack came less than an hour after Nessler was released from jail where he served time for beating Davis a month earlier. Nesler's mother, Ellie, ignited a national debate in 1993 when she walked into a courtroom, pulled a gun from her purse and killed the man accused of molesting her son when he was eleven years old. Her murder conviction was overturned because of juror misconduct and she later pleaded guilty to manslaughter. William Nesler has a long criminal record. He's been booked on 18 separate cases over five years.
