Couple braves storm to welcome blizzard baby into world
LIBERTY, MO (KCTV) -
As the forecast called for the snow to pile up Tuesday morning, Kelly and Joe Stamps weren't too worried.
Kelly Stamps was scheduled for a sonogram Tuesday afternoon. Her baby wasn't due for another week.
But Jacob Allen Stamps wouldn't wait. Kelly Stamps felt strong labor pains starting at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday.
It's normally a 20-minute drive to St. Luke's North Hospital, but the snow was coming down. Kelly Stamps had quick deliveries with her previous children so she was worried about making it to the hospital in time.
"It was nerve wracking," Kelly Stamps said. "I was just hoping we would get here in time."
Joe Stamps managed to get behind a truck with a plow that made the drive a tad better. The drive took about 45 minutes.
"We were just lucky," Joe Stamps said.
The couple was at the hospital by 6:30 a.m. The baby was born at 7:37 a.m.
The couple didn't know whether they were having a boy or girl until Jacob Allen made his debut.
"It was a good day," Kelly Stamps said. "It was a good surprise."
