Antioch optometry store robbed of thousands in glasses

Three thieves at a local eyeglass store may not have known the lens of a camera was on them all along. They stole glasses worth thousands of dollars in a scheme that seemed to be planned with precision.

At first glance, the surveillance video appears to show shoppers browsing, but one woman was talking on a cell phone and another talked with a salesperson while a man started reaching for merchandise.

The owner of NuVue Eyecare in Antioch said the trio was working together to rip her off.

"They kept both of us really busy. I tried to keep an eye on everything that was happening, but I couldn't," said owner Jeri Gavami.

On the surveillance footage, the three appear to take turns distracting employees as one of the women and the man help themselves to the merchandise.

"It makes you not want to trust people," Gavami said.

The business owner believes they got hit by professional thieves.

"He scoped us out on Saturday," Gavami said. "When they came in on Monday, they had a plan. It was interference and distractions. They knew what they were doing."

The thieves got away with thousands in designer shades and prescription glasses, but not before the cameras recorded their every move.

"This won't happen to us again," Gavami said.

As for this business owner, she just hopes someone turns them in and stops them before they can rip off anyone else.

If you recognize the thieves on that surveillance video, call Metro police.
