No Comeback for Knights in Championship

For the second straight night at Mercer's Hawkins Arena, the Deerfield-Windsor basketball team found themselves trailing by double digits in the first half.

Only on Saturday night, Loganville Christian was not going to led the Knights pull another rally.

Loganville leads from opening tip to final whistle to beat Deerfield-Windsor 74-65 to win their first GISA AAA state basketball championship.

The loss for the Knights denied them a sixth state title and ended a 19-game winning streak.

Ramello Carter, the hero in Friday's semifinal win, did score 32 points in his final game in a DWS uniform.

Carter could not match the Lions trip of Seth Dossett (22 points), Caleb Boykin (19 points) and Blake Odgers (16 points).

"They did what they wanted to do and we couldn't seem to do what we wanted to do. We left them open too many times and they converted.  We put them on the free throw line way too many times. Everything we talked about we wanted to do and didn't want them to do and they did.  That is a recepe for disaster. Unfortunately that happened tonight," said head coach Gordy Gruhl.

Deerfield-Windsor finishes the season 24-4.
