Sylvania Avenue reopens after gas leak

SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A major Toledo road has finally reopened after being closed on and off for two days because of a gas leak.

Columbia Gas officials shut down Sylvania Avenue between Eaglehurst Road and Lancelot Road after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Crews finished working in the area overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

At first, teams could not find the source, but a Columbia Gas customer reported the smell of gas, leading workers to the leak. It was confirmed old pipes were the cause.

Crews worked all Wednesday to fix the leak. Reps say 100 feet of 50-year-old steel line was upgraded to plastic.

No one lost any natural gas service or was evacuated. Residents in the immediate area had access to and from their homes.
