CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A South Carolina man is facing charges after police say he assaulted a woman onboard an airplane over the weekend.

According to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police report, officers were called to the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport on Saturday afternoon to the report of a fight onboard a flight.

The report say officers were called to Concourse B on Saturday around 4:45 p.m.  US Airways confirmed the incident took place on one of its planes.

According to the report, the airplane had been waiting to taxi to the runway when the fight broke out.

US Airways crew members contacted the tower and turned the plane back to the gate, US Airways confirmed to WBTV.

Police say a 22-year-old man, Blake Jones, from Little River, SC, assaulted a 53-year-old woman from Cleveland, Ohio.

Jones was booked in the Mecklenburg County jail on Saturday evening at 7:42 p.m.  He was released at 10:38 a.m. Sunday morning.

He is facing charges of assault on a female by a male at least 18 years of age and resisting arrest.  He was released on a $2,000 bond.

The victim, who suffered only minor injuries, was treated by medical personnel at the scene.
